Chennai: Two Indian fishermen were injured in a shootout by the Sri Lankan Navy on two Indian boats in Jaffna Sagar. These fishing boats were part of a total of 13 boats. Naturally, no country will allow the boats of another country to enter their water sector without permission, but the water in neighboring countries is so close that fishermen often miss the line.
In connection with the said incident, Rameswaram Fisherman Association said that the fishermen of these two boats were fishing near the Perthura beach in Jaffna, when the Sri Lankan Navy opened fire on them and shot in one of the fishermen in both boats. Got started. The Sri Lankan Navy then caught the boats and took them to Jaffna, where two injured fishermen are being treated.
Earlier too, 41 fishermen were caught by the Sri Lankan Navy but later handed over to India. He was arrested and taken by aircraft to Chennai Airport. Out of these 41 fishermen, 35 fishermen were from Ramanathapuram district. He was arrested on 8 2024. However, he was released on the order of the Government of India and the Tamil Nadu government and handed over to India.
