Special instructions issued to remove problems in GST registration process

Mumbai: To end the oppression of regional officials, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued special instructions to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration process. Revised guidelines have been issued aimed at reducing excessive documentary requests.

Sources in the department said that this notification has been issued keeping in mind the constant complaints from GST taxpayers.

The department has urged the field officials to be limited to the list of documents given in the form GST REG-01. The department has come to know that such documents are being sought from taxpayers which are not specified in the GST Act.

Sources said that complaints have been received that his PAN, Aadhaar card number and photographs inside the commercial complex are being sought from the landlord.

The notification issued by the department states that any one of the documents mentioned in the portal is sufficient and additional documents are not required nor sought. For rental property, the applicant will have to attach rent or lease agreement and other assistant documents.
