News India Live, Digital Desk: Recently, the arrest of social and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk in Ladakh has shocked everyone. Now his wife, Gitanjali Angamo, has taken the matter to the country’s largest court, Supreme Court, and she has demanded the immediate release of her husband.

Actually, the future of Ladakh has been discussed for a long time. Sonam Wangchuk was constantly raising voice demanding Ladakh to include the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. He believes that this will help the local people of Ladakh to save their identity, land and environment. Violence erupted after a major demonstration in Ladakh on 24 September on this issue, in which four people also lost their lives.

Following these incidents, Sonam Wangchuk was taken into custody on 26 September under the National Security Act (NSA). She is currently kept in Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan. Gitanjali Angamo says that she has not been given any written order to take her husband into custody so far nor is she being allowed to talk or meet them.

In her petition, Geetanjali Angmo has raised questions whether this action is not trying to silence her husband? He described this entire incident as ‘Witch-Hunt’. He also says that Sonam Wangchuk is a peace loving person and has always worked for the country and Ladakh, even many important innovations for the Indian Army. In such a situation, it is beyond comprehension to tell them the threat to the security of the country. He has also written a letter to the Prime Minister, the President and the Home Minister, pleading for intervening and the unconditional release of Sonam Wangchuk.

At the same time, the Ladakh administration has termed the allegations as baseless and said that all action has been taken under the purview of law. The administration says that Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the rules and was also handed over a detention order. There is also some investigation on financial transactions and foreign funding related to his educational institution ‘Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh’ (Hial). Now it has to be seen what the Supreme Court takes on this sensitive case. The case is expected to be heard immediately after the Dussehra holiday
