To counter infiltration from across the border and to eliminate terrorists hiding in natural caves on high hills, the police Snow Leopards A new and deadly squad has been formed by the name. These commandos will not only respond to enemy bullets but also have the power to hunt in sub-zero temperatures (up to -20°C).

Who are ‘Snow Leopards’ and what is their specialty?

It is an elite part of the Special Operations Group (SOG), which is specially designed for the high peaks of Pir Panjal and Central Kashmir which are difficult to reach for normal security forces.

Rigorous Training: These commandos have been trained in the coldest places of Leh-Ladakh and Kashmir. They are adept at attacking by becoming ‘invisible’ even amidst snowfall and dense fog.

Expert in Mountaineering: They have been trained to climb high mountains (mountaineering) and keep watch for hours without getting tired.

lethal Weapon: The Snow Leopards are equipped with modern sniper rifles, night vision devices and portable communication systems.

Why was this special squad needed?

In recent months, it has been seen that terrorists are taking recourse to caves in dense forests and inaccessible hills to escape from the security forces.

Guerrilla Warfare: Terrorists attack from the hills by hiding. Snow Leopards will now respond to them in their own language.

Fast Response: This squad has received such training that they can reach inaccessible places by airlift or on foot within minutes of receiving information.

Local Identity: In this team, priority has been given to those soldiers who are well aware of the hilly areas and roads of Kashmir.

Senior officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police believe that with the arrival of ‘Snow Leopards’ the network of hybrid terrorists and foreign infiltrators can be completely destroyed. This squad will now also patrol those areas around the LoC where surveillance was weakened due to snowfall in winter.
