Jharkhand has created history by scoring a ‘golden hat-trick’ of success in the ‘Hockey India Annual Awards 2024-25’ (6th edition) held in the capital Delhi. Simdega district, which is called the ‘nursery’ of Indian hockey, has been chosen the best ‘hockey hub’ of the country. Along with this prestigious honour, Jharkhand has also got a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a shining trophy.
Simdega becomes the country’s ‘best hockey hub’ Hockey India has honored Simdega district with the ‘Best Hockey Hub’ award. This honor has been given to Simdega for his passion for hockey, for grooming players at the grassroots level and for producing international level stars. Manoj Konbegi, District Sports Officer (DSO) of Simdega and President of Hockey Simdega received this honour. This achievement has proved that despite limited resources, there is no dearth of talent in the remote areas of Jharkhand.
Shower of awards: Salima Tete and Sangeeta Kumari shine Jharkhand’s success was not limited to Simdega only. Indian women’s hockey team’s star player Salima Tete has been honored with the prestigious award of ‘Player of the Year’ (Women). Along with this, forward player Sangeeta Kumari also received a special award for her excellent performance. The success of these daughters has made the sports lovers of Jharkhand proud. The Chief Minister and the Sports Minister have congratulated the entire team on this historic achievement.
Reward of Rs 10 lakh and path to future The reward of Rs 10 lakh received by Hockey India will be used to further improve the sports facilities in Simdega and training of young players. Experts believe that this honor will increase enthusiasm for hockey in other districts of Jharkhand also. Simdega has given players like Salima Tete, Sangeeta Kumari and Beauty Dungdung to the country, and now after this award, it is expected that many more Olympic stars will emerge from the ‘nursery’.
