This decision has been taken in a meeting of the Union Cabinet on Wednesday (September 24, 2025). With this increase, now the dearness allowance of central employees will increase from 53% to 56%. This is a big step because it will directly increase the salary of employees and will help them to deal with increasing inflation. This new dearness allowance will be applicable from July 1, 2025. This means that an increased DA will be available in the salary of October, along with three months arrears from July to September. This money will be received during festivals, so that the employees and their families will be able to enjoy the festivals a lot.
Why dearness allowance was increased?
Dearness allowance (DA) is the part of the salary of employees that are given to save their expenses from increasing inflation. The government considers this every six months. This is decided on the basis of data of All India Consumer Price Index – AICPI. When inflation increases, DA is also increased, so that the actual income of the employees is not affected.
Who will be beneficiaries and how much will increase?
About 50 lakh central employees will get the benefit of this DA hike. Also, more than 68 lakh pensioners will also get the benefit of increased inflation relief (Dr), which will increase their monthly pension.
For example, if the basic salary of an employee is Rs 20,000, then after an increase of 3%, he will benefit by Rs 600 every month (ie 3% of 20,000). Mixing three months arrears, he will get about Rs 1,800 simultaneously. Similarly, employees with more salary will get more benefit.
This decision will increase the purchasing power of the people during the festive season, which will increase demand in the market and will also speed up the economy. This is a big and memorable gift of Diwali and Durga Puja for central employees!
