‘Silent killer’ is dissolving in Delhi’s air, hazardous mercury is going into the body with breath

Post

We all know how poisonous the air of Delhi is. But now a new research has revealed what is really intimidating. According to this study, not only the dust-water of Delhi, but also a very dangerous ‘mercury’, which is making us sick by reaching our body through breaths.

What does this new research say?

Researchers at Delhi University and Washington University in America have done this study together. It was found that the level of mercury in Delhi’s air is more than the fixed standards. It is a matter of concern that this poisonous mercury present in the air sticks to small particles (PM2.5) and when we breathe, it is directly found in our lungs and then blood.

How dangerous is this mercury present in the air?

Mercury is a metal that has a very bad effect on the brain, kidney and our nervous system. Especially, it can prove to be extremely dangerous for children and pregnant women. This can cause obstruction of mental development of children and can also cause problems related to memory. The biggest problem is that its effect is not immediately visible, but it slowly keeps the body hollow from inside.

Where did so much mercury come from Delhi’s air?

It has been told in this research that the biggest reason for the dissolving of this poison in the air of Delhi is the thermal power plants, factories and garbage piles, which causes fire. When coal burns or garbage is burnt, mercury comes out of it and spreads in the air. In winter, when pollution increases and air stops in one place, then it becomes even more dangerous.

This research is like a warning that now we have to think not only about PM2.5, but also about this unseen poison dissolving in the air. This is a ‘silent killer’ who is gradually destroying our health.
