Expressway rules changed: The speed limit is likely to be reduced on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway from December 15 to February 15 as a standard safety measure implemented every year due to fog during winter. With the onset of winter, traffic arrangements have been tightened on both the expressways.
DCP (Traffic) Yamuna Prasad said, “Due to winter season, fog reduces visibility on the roads, making driving difficult. Due to cold, roads also become slippery, which increases the possibility of accidents. To avoid any untoward incident, we are planning to reduce the speed limit on Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway soon.”
More than 150 e-challans
Taking strict action against speeding vehicles on Yamuna Expressway, the traffic police issued more than 150 e-challans on November 7. Here are some things that people should keep in mind while traveling on these expressways.
On Yamuna Expressway, the speed limit for light vehicles will be reduced from 100 km per hour to 75 km per hour and for heavy vehicles the speed limit will be reduced from 80 km per hour to 60 km per hour.
Rs 2,000 challan
On the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the speed limit for light vehicles will be reduced from 100 kmph to 75 kmph and for heavy vehicles from 60 kmph to 50 kmph. Light vehicles violating the speed limit are fined Rs 2,000, while heavy vehicles are fined Rs 4,000.
Yamuna Expressway toll operation officials said that the authorities have also planned to install fog lights at various places to improve visibility. The officials will provide tea to truck drivers at night to ensure that they do not sleep while driving.

Jaypee Infratech, which built the 165-km Yamuna Expressway connecting Noida and Agra, has deployed 15 patrol vehicles, six ambulances, six cranes and six fire engines on the expressway.
