Waqf JPC meeting marshal: According to a notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 held a meeting at 11:00 am in Delhi today. In which there has been an uproar in the JPC meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill. Seeing this commotion, Marshal was called. 10 opposition MPs including Asaduddin Owaisi and Kalyan Banerjee have been suspended. Opposition MPs allege, ‘Our views are not being heard.’

Why was there uproar in the JPC meeting?

The main reason for the uproar by the members of the opposition forces in the JPC on Waqf was the demand of the committee members that the date for adopting the report should be changed to January 31. Earlier, the date of 24th and 25th January was fixed for discussion in this regard. But late on Thursday night the date was changed to January 27. Opposition MPs demand that the meeting be postponed to January 31 instead of January 27.

JPC report may be submitted on January 27 or 28

Seeing this commotion, Marshal was called. After this, 10 opposition MPs including Asaduddin Owaisi and Kalyan Banerjee have been suspended by JPC President Jagdambika Pal. Opposition MPs allege, ‘Our views are not being heard.’ However, even before this there have been controversies in this meeting. This meeting of JPC on Waqf will last for two days. According to sources, the JPC report can be submitted on January 27 or 28.

During the discussion, opposition MPs walked out of the meeting. After which action was taken by the Chairman. Leaders of TMC, DMK, Congress and Samajwadi Party have been suspended from JPC.

These 10 MPs were suspended for the day

All 10 opposition MPs were suspended for a day after the uproar in the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. The suspended opposition MPs include Kalyan Banerjee, Mohammad Javed, A Raja, Asaduddin Owaisi, Nasir Hussain, Mohibullah, M Abdullah, Arvind Sawant, Nadimul Haq, Imran Masood.

Crisis like atmosphere in the meeting: Banerjee

In the JPC meeting held in the Parliament complex on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, Kalyan Banerjee said, ‘An atmosphere like undeclared emergency is going on in the meeting. The Chairman is leading the meeting and he is not listening to anyone. We were told that the meeting will be held on 24 and 25 January. Now the agenda of today’s meeting has been changed.
