Mumbai: While warning tourists landing at Mumbai airport, a Sangli student from the US was run over by a robber rickshaw driver. This rickshaw driver made the student sit in the rickshaw by hiding the fact that taking rickshaws is not allowed in Dadar. He was taken to an isolated place in Chembur and his friend was called and robbed. When this student told the whole story to a higher official on email, the police got frustrated and Sahar police registered a case and arrested this rickshaw puller from Ghatkopar. It is said that this rickshaw puller has a criminal history.
Vishwajit Patil, a 19-year-old student originally from Sangli, had returned home from America for the holidays. He landed at Mumbai International Airport at 1.30 pm on 14th December. He came out and took a rickshaw. Vishwajeet did not know that rickshaw driving is not allowed in Dadar area of Mumbai. He asked the rickshaw puller to take him to Dadar station and the rickshaw puller hid the fact from him that the rickshaw was not going to Dadar.
Kadam took a rickshaw and went to Chembur area. There he made his mark. In this the rickshaw fare was shown as Rs 106 per meter. But, he asked for Rs 3500 from Vishwajeet. When Vishwajeet protested, he threatened him. He had also called one of his friends there. He transferred one thousand rupees in cash and two and a half thousand rupees through Google Pay from Vishwajeet.
The student took a photo of the number plate of the rickshaw before getting down. He emailed the complete information to a top officer of Mumbai Police. After this the police started running away. Sahar police registered a case against the rickshaw puller under sections 308 (2) and 308 (3) of the Indian Penal Code. D.T. On December 17, the police picked him up from Lalbhatti area of Ghatkopar.
The police suspect that the rickshaw puller has also cheated other tourists and is extorting huge amounts of money by threatening them. Earlier, he was also found involved in a case of injuring someone with a weapon.
