
New Delhi: According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the electric vehicle (EV) registration in India reached 1.97 million units in FY 2025, mainly due to a strong growth in two -wheeler and three -wheeler segments. This shows an increase of 17% compared to the financial year 2024.
Adopting electric powertrain was most prominently seen in two -wheelers, leading to electric vehicle changes in the automotive region. In FY 2025, registration of electric two-wheelers increased from 21% to 1.15 lakh units from year to year.
The share of this section in the overall two-wheeler market during 2024-25 will cross the 6% mark. This year, the electric two -wheeler segment saw strict competition between Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company and Hero MotoCorp.
Registration of electric passenger vehicles (car and SUVs) has crossed the 100,000 mark, which records a strong growth of 18.2% year-on-year. Electric vehicles in the overall passenger vehicle segment for the financial year 2025 were about 3%.
In FY 2025, the electric three-wheeler registration increased by 11% to around 700,000 units from year to year. Electric vehicles now have 57% share in registration of total three -wheelers, which outlines rapid electrification of this section.
