Connecting the great men and knights of the country with caste and religion is an inauspicious sign for both society and nation. But in Uttar Pradesh politics these days the name of the great warrior Rana Sanga has become the center of political debate. On the one hand, while trying to tie them into ethnic identity, on the other hand political parties are engaged in connecting this issue with vote bank politics.
Ramjilal Suman’s statement created a ruckus
Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman had some time ago raised controversy in Parliament as Rana Sanga as ‘traitor’. After this statement, Karni Sena and Rajput organizations staged a fierce protest in Agra, after which Suman had to plead for security from the court. Although he also regretted the statement, the same thing repeated again after a few days.
Akhilesh Yadav supported Suman
On Saturday, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav met Ramjilal Suman in Agra and met his house. This meeting was not just personal but a big political message. Akhilesh Yadav, presenting Suman as a ‘Dalit MP’, supported him and indicated that he was using the dispute to make Dalit voters in his favor.
Political equation: PDA Formula and Dalit vote bank
According to political analysts, this step of Akhilesh Yadav is an attempt to set a special political negative. The attention of the SP is now focused on the ‘D’ of the PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) formula. In the November 2024 by-election, the BJP performed tremendously in the Dalit-OBC-dominated seats, raging the alarm bell for the SP.
BSP’s weakened vote bank
The Dalit vote bank of BSP supremo Mayawati has been continuously weakened over the years. While the BSP got 26% votes in 2012, it declined to 13% in 2022 and only 7% in the 2024 by -election. In the midst of this decline, the SP is now working on a strategy to bring the Dalit vote bank in its favor.
Yogi Adityanath’s retaliation
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has hit a sharp attack on this strategy of Akhilesh Yadav. Accusing the SP of spreading ethnic hatred, he said that all this is the politics of dividing the society and it causes harm to both the country and the society.
