The Central Government had started ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ (JJM) so that tap water reaches every house in the desert. But alas, during the previous government, there were reports that in the name of laying water lines, some people laid ‘lines’ to fill their pockets.
Now the Bhajanlal Sharma government of Rajasthan has decided that it will accept the truth only after bringing out the truth of this “water scam”. A very big news has come from Jaipur which has given sleepless nights to the entire bureaucracy. The government has lodged a complaint with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) over alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Former Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Investigation against has been approved.
Let us understand in very simple words what this whole matter is and what the ACB is going to do now.
Who is that big ‘sir’?
Those against whom permission for investigation has been granted are not small-time employees, but senior IAS officers (now former) who held the highest positions in the administration. we are talking Subodh Agarwal of. ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) suspects that during his tenure there were huge irregularities in the tenders and works of Jal Jeevan Mission.
ACB’s hands open
Friends, we ask the government to investigate against any IAS officer (even if he is retired). Section 17A Approval has to be taken under. ACB had long ago written a letter to the government seeking permission to investigate against Subodh Aggarwal and some other officers.
Now Bhajanlal government has put the seal of ‘yes’ on that file. This means that ACB can now interrogate him rigorously and scrutinize the evidence.
What is a scam after all?
It is alleged that under JJM, tenders worth thousands of crores were given to favored companies.
- Fake Certificate: Companies issued fake experience certificates to get jobs, and officers turned a blind eye and passed them.
- Poor pipe: It was even reported that old and poor quality pipes were buried in the ground and money was taken for new ones.
ACB believes that such a big game cannot happen without the connivance of “big bosses” sitting at the top.
Strong message from the government
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma had already made it clear that a policy of “zero tolerance” would be adopted in matters of corruption. By approving the investigation against the former ACS, the government has given the message that no matter how big the post is, if public money has been embezzled, then accounts will have to be given.
What next?
Now the ACB team can call former ACS Subodh Aggarwal for questioning. ED has also already raided many places in this matter. So overall, the coming days may be very difficult for some big faces of Rajasthan.
