The Assam government has approached the Supreme Court against the anticipatory bail granted to senior Congress leader Pawan Kheda, due to which politics has heated up. Rahul Gandhi has made a direct attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him the ‘most corrupt Chief Minister’ of the country. Rahul Gandhi’s attack on ‘X’: Accused of misuse of power

Expressing his displeasure on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Rahul Gandhi wrote that the Chief Minister of Assam is misusing his power and targeting political opponents. He said in a stern tone, “The current Chief Minister of Assam is the most corrupt Chief Minister of the country and he will not be able to run away from the clutches of the law.” Rahul further said that harassing his critics is against the Constitution and the entire Congress party stands firmly with Pawan Kheda. He advocated transparency and maintaining the rule of law.

The root of this entire controversy is the sensational allegations made by Pawan Kheda on April 5. Kheda had claimed that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, holds passports of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Antigua. Not only this, he alleged that the couple has a huge business worth Rs 52,000 crore in America, which was not mentioned in the election affidavit. After these allegations, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma lodged an FIR against Kheda, after which Assam Police also raided his residence in Delhi.

Relief from High Court and challenge of Assam government in Supreme Court

Pawan Kheda had moved the court to avoid possible arrest by Assam Police. On April 10, Telangana High Court gave him relief and granted him transit anticipatory bail of one week. The court had directed him to approach the competent court of Assam for regular bail. However, the Assam government is not satisfied with this decision and has filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court to cancel this bail. Now everyone’s eyes are on the biggest court of the country.

Opposition’s taunt: ‘Chief Minister is nervous’

Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi has also taken the Chief Minister to task on this issue. Gogoi said that the Chief Minister is in great panic and frustration at this time. He did not expect that this news would spread across the country so quickly. According to Gogoi, the Chief Minister’s uneasiness for the last few days is clearly visible in his face and his words. He stressed that the truth cannot be hidden merely by making noise or taking police action.
