The case is related to a disputed statement of him a few years ago, where he alleged that Prime Minister Modi, industrialist Adani and BJP President Amit Shah together were benefiting from a government scheme, under which the road digging JCB (JCB) machines were being sold to their parties. The allegation was originally made during an election rally, which still had a lot of controversy. In the court, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyers filed a bail petition on his behalf. The court accepted their bail after hearing all the arguments. However, the court asked Rahul Gandhi to fill a personal bond, the value of which has been fixed at Rs 25,000, and also directed to present two bails for the same amount. In this complaint, it was alleged that Rahul Gandhi had spoken of a fraud using a company called ‘Combine’, under which JCB machines were sold and embezzled in the name of the government. The complainant argued that this statement of Rahul Gandhi had hurt the reputation of him and others in public, as he had directly named the Prime Minister, Union Minister and BJP President. Rahul Gandhi often keeps making sharp comments against his political opponents, making many defamation cases against him. However, they see such cases as an attack on freedom of expression and consider them as the result of political malice.
