BSP chief Mayawati has termed Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘PDA’ slogan as a political gimmick. Attacking SP through social media, Mayawati said that the party which has played with the honor of Dalits, is today misleading the public by talking about their welfare.

1. PDA called election gimmick
Mayawati said that SP’s ‘PDA’ (P-Backward, D-Dalit, A-Minority) slogan is designed only to polarize votes. He alleged that Dalits and backward classes have always been exploited during the SP government and now efforts are being made to woo them as soon as the elections come.
2. Reminded of the guest house incident
Mayawati once again 2 June 1995 Mentioned the infamous ‘Guest House Scandal’. He said that that day SP goons had tried to take the life of a Dalit’s daughter (Mayawati herself). He raised the question that how can a party which has anti-women and anti-Dalit mentality do good to the Dalits?
3. ‘Anti-Dalit’ decisions of SP government
Mayawati also reminded of the decisions when the SP government had allegedly cut short the rights of Dalits:
Attempt to weaken the SC/ST Act.
Opposing reservation in promotion.
Changing the names of districts and institutions named after Dalit great men.
Why is this statement important? (Political Significance)
There is currently a competition in the politics of Uttar Pradesh regarding ‘Dalit vote bank’. While on one hand Akhilesh Yadav is trying to connect the non-Yadav backward classes and Dalits through his ‘PDA’, on the other hand Mayawati is keeping the old image of SP in front of the public to save her cadre vote from slipping.

SP spokespersons say that Mayawati is working like the ‘B-team’ of BJP and is digging up old dead bodies to benefit BJP. He claims that both BSP and BJP are scared of the increasing influence of PDA.
