Today is not just a date, but reminiscent of the supreme sacrifice given for a dream. This is the story of that great visionary, educationist and bright nationalist Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who dreamed of an unbroken India decades ago and sacrificed his life for him.
This dream and sacrifice was bowed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow today. On the occasion of Dr. Mukherjee’s sacrifice day, he paid homage to his statue and recalled the history that set the direction of modern India.
What was the dream for which the sacrifice was given?
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on this occasion that today’s India is indebted to Dr. Mukherjee. This was a period when even after independence, a permit was needed to go to its own parts of India to Kashmir. The country was one, but the legislation, mark and the head were two. Dr. Mukherjee raised his voice against this injustice. His slogan was- “Two legislations, two marks and two heads will not run in one country.” With this resolution, he went to Kashmir without a permit, where he was arrested and died under mysterious circumstances.
After 70 years, dream came true
CM Yogi said that Dr. Mukherjee’s sacrifice did not go in vain. His burnt torch continued to inspire generations. This incomplete dream was realized after 70 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, when Section 370 was abolished forever from Kashmir. The Chief Minister described this bold step as the most true and emotional tribute for Dr. Mukherjee.
Today, when Kashmir is an integral part of India without any bond, it is the result of the same sacrifice of Dr. Mukherjee. His life and his sacrifice always reminds us of the spirit of “nation paramount” and strengthens the resolve of “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat”.
