The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the Indian government’s cyber security agency, has issued a ‘high-risk’ alert regarding several older Apple devices. According to this warning, if you are still using the old software version, then hackers can easily target your device.
Why is it so dangerous?
According to CERT-In, some serious security flaws have been found in Apple’s old operating systems, taking advantage of which hackers can take over your device remotely. In technical language this is called ‘remote arbitrary code execution’.
To understand in simple words, hackers use these vulnerabilities:
- Can completely control your device.
- Your personal and sensitive information, such as bank details, passwords, photos and messages can be stolen.
- Can introduce dangerous malware or viruses into your device.
This threat is not limited to iPhone only, but older versions of iPad, Mac computers and Apple Watch also come under its scope.
Which devices are at risk?
CERT-In has clearly stated that this flaw exists in older versions of the following Apple operating systems:
- iOS and iPadOS: Older versions of iPhone 8, iPhone
- macOS Ventura: Mac users using its older versions.
- watchOS: Older Apple Watch software versions.
- Safari Browser: Versions prior to 16.7.1.

There is only one and easiest way to avoid this big threat – to immediately update your Apple device to the latest software. Apple has released new updates to fix these security flaws.
