
A very sensational and heart-wrenching murder case related to extra-marital affair has come to light in Odisha. After months of intensive and technical investigation, the special team of the District Police, solving the mystery of this dreadful blind murder case, has arrested the main accused from Mumbai, the financial capital of Maharashtra.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pramod Kumar Mallik, this whole case started with a missing person registered after the sudden disappearance of 35-year-old Birendra Behera. On May 25, Birendra had gone to neighboring district Mayurbhanj to work as a dumper driver with his close friend and main accused Biren Madhei, after which he mysteriously never returned home.

According to police records, his wife Sabitri Behera, worried and scared due to her husband’s sudden disappearance, had lodged a written report of Birendra’s missing at Berhampur police station on May 27. After the FIR was registered, when the local police started connecting the links, the truth of a deep triangular love web and mutual enmity hidden behind the layers came out.

Partnership and controversies: During investigation, police came to know that deceased Birendra Behera and accused Biren Madhei were once very close friends. But there was a serious dispute going on between the two for some time.

Main reason for murder: Inquiries conducted at the local level revealed that deceased Birendra Behera had allegedly had an illicit love affair with the wife of accused Biren Madhei. When Biren got wind of this affair between his wife and his friend, the fire of deep bitterness and vengeance started burning in their relationship.
A fine of ₹ 50,000 was imposed in the Panchayat, but the rivalry remained in the heart.
This sensitive social dispute had also reached the local caste committee and panchayat of the village a few months ago. During that time, to avoid the stigma of the society, the local elders and the Sarpanch had tried to reach a compromise by making both the parties sit face to face.
To calm the dispute and hush up the matter, the Panchayat blames the guilty party. Cash fine of Rs 50 thousand Was also imposed. After paying the fine, on the surface the matter seemed to be calm, but in the heart of accused Biren Madhei, a bloody conspiracy to take revenge for his insult and betrayal was continuously going on.
Took a friend to the forest on the pretext of work, killed him and buried his body
On the morning of 25th May, accused Biren Madhei, as part of a well-planned conspiracy, took Birendra Behera with him on the pretext of a new project of running dumpers in Mayurbhanj district. ASP Pramod Kumar Mallik said that after reaching there, in a deserted forest area, the accused attacked Birendra with an ax or a heavy weapon and killed him.
Conspiracy to destroy evidence: To completely hide the murder, the accused dug a deep pit at a very secret place inside the forest and buried Birendra’s body by adding salt and soil. Immediately after committing the crime, the accused fled Odisha and, hiding his identity, started traveling to Mumbai (Maharashtra).
Arrest from Mumbai and skeletal remains found near in-laws’ house
The Cyber and Surveillance Cell of Odisha Police tracked the mobile tower location and bank transactions of the accused and finally caught him from a secret hideout in Mumbai. After being brought to Berhampur, during the rigorous remand and interrogation, the accused Biren Madhei broke down and allegedly confessed to his crime.
Under the live surveillance of the accused and presence of forensic experts, the police team reached the identified area of Mayurbhanj, which was located very close to the in-laws house of the accused. After digging there, the police remains of a dead body (bones and skeleton) Have been successfully recovered. Police administration says that the recovered skeleton has been sent for DNA profiling and forensic laboratory examination. More concrete evidence is being collected to establish the links before and after the murder legally so that the accused can be given the harshest punishment in the court.
