Often the rules of government schemes keep changing from time to time so that its benefits are available only to those who really deserve it. Now a news is coming which may cause some trouble for those people who have an e-rickshaw (also known as ‘Toto’ in many states) at home.

Under the Ujjwala scheme, the government provides free gas connections and affordable refills to those families in the country who fall below the poverty line (BPL). Recently, data verification has been started to improve the transparency of this scheme. According to the latest news, the administration believes that if a family has a three-wheeler or four-wheeler—which now also includes e-rickshaw i.e. ‘Toto’—then that family can be considered financially ‘able’.

The reality is that ‘Toto’ has today become a major source of income in rural and semi-urban areas. The government is now reluctant to count those families who are earning a decent monthly income through Toto, among the economically weaker section. The report states that if you have any commercial vehicle or motor vehicle registered in your name, your ‘Ujjwala gas connection’ may be closed after verification.

Often after such news, people get scared whether they will not get the cylinder from tomorrow itself? The truth is that verification work is still going on. ‘E-KYC’ of beneficiaries is being done in many states. The government wants that the names of those fake or wrong people who have availed this facility by hiding information should be removed from the list.
Whose connection will be secure?
If there is no Toto in your house and your income is as per the poverty line rules, then you have no need to fear at all. Just keep one thing in mind that your KYC is updated. If you have Toto at home and are using it for business, it is possible that you may have to shift to a normal connection in the future.
The main objective of government rules is to ensure that no influential person takes away the share of the real ‘needy’. So, if you are an e-rickshaw driver and running your own household, then definitely meet your nearest gas dealer and clarify what your documents say.
