A big and relief news has come to the general public regarding the increasing demand and supply of gas cylinders. To easily meet the increasing demand of LPG, the government has intensified the sale of 5 kg ‘Chhotu’ LPG cylinders. The most important thing is that to buy these small cylinders you will not have to face the hassle of heavy paperwork. According to the latest report of the Petroleum Ministry, about 6.6 lakh such small cylinders have been sold across the country since March 23, 2026.

Proof of address not required for ‘Chhotu’ FTL cylinder

A number of documents are required for a subsidized regular domestic gas connection of 14.2 kg which is generally used in households. But on the contrary, you can easily buy small LPG cylinders of 5 kg (called FTL i.e. Free Trade LPG) at market price. It is not at all necessary to provide address proof to get these from any gas agency near you. The Petroleum Ministry said in its official statement that on April 4 alone, more than 90,000 5 kg FTL cylinders have been sold.

There is no shortage of gas in the country, 95% booking is happening sitting at home.

The Ministry has also put an end to all those rumors in which there was talk of shortage of LPG. There is no shortage of gas with LPG distributors and the supply is going on smoothly. More than 51 lakh domestic cylinders have been successfully supplied within just one day. The best thing is that about 95 percent of the total demand is being met by people through online booking sitting at home.

Government’s strict hunter on black marketing and hoarding

The administration has intensified its action against those involved in hoarding and black marketing of gas cylinders. Since March, more than 50,000 gas cylinders have been seized in raids across the country. To stop the arbitrariness of LPG gas distributors and improve the system, more than 1,400 show cause notices have been issued, while till now 36 dealerships have been suspended with immediate effect due to serious irregularities.

What is the status of supply of commercial and natural gas?

The Petroleum Ministry said that the supply of commercial LPG has currently been limited to 70 percent of the pre-crisis level, so that the demand pressure of the general public can be reduced by increasing the availability of smaller cylinders. If we talk about natural gas, there is complete supply for domestic use and transportation (CNG). At the same time, from April 6, the supply to fertilizer plants will be increased to about 90 percent of the average consumption, which will be supported through the incoming LNG cargo.

Don’t pay attention to rumours, fuel is available in abundance

The ministry has assured the countrymen that all the refineries of the country are working at their highest capacity. Adequate fuel is also available at petrol pumps across the country. The government has made a special appeal to the common people not to indulge in panic buying and to trust only the official information.
