No new tradition will be started on Muharram: District Magistrate

Varanasi, July 10 (HS). District Magistrate S. Rajlingam said on Wednesday that no new tradition will be started on the festival of Muharram. Celebrate the festival in a traditional and peaceful manner. The District Magistrate was addressing the meeting of the district level peace committee in the traffic police auditorium to ensure the safe completion of the festival.

He said that one should not do anything that hurts anybody's sentiments. He directed the Electricity department to ensure that there are no dilapidated poles and cables and hanging and bare wires at various places, especially on the routes of Tazia processions. He directed to fill the potholes and pits on the roads at the places where Tazia processions take place. The District Magistrate, along with Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal, talked to the members of the Peace Committee and listened to their problems and directed the concerned departmental officials to get them resolved on priority and with full responsibility. The members of the Peace Committee were asked to take necessary precautions in view of security and other arrangements.

Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal said that the festival should be celebrated in a peaceful manner in accordance with dignity. Local peace committee meetings have been held in all the police stations of the district. All the procession organizers should appoint sufficient number of volunteers, who will work shoulder to shoulder with the police administration to ensure the safe completion of the festival. He told all the members of the peace committee that on receiving any fake or misleading news, they must immediately inform the district administration or their nearest police station. Necessary action can be taken after taking cognizance of it. He instructed to be cautious about the places marked in previous years in the peace committee meetings held in the police stations. He said that the police cell will keep a strict watch on social media. The Additional Police Commissioner gave detailed information on important points of security. Imams of all the mosques of the district participated in the meeting.
