News India Live, Digital Desk: The friendship between India and Russia has written another new chapter in the direction of making Indian airspace an impregnable fortress. Amidst the increasing challenges from China and Pakistan on the border, India is now going to order special ‘bodyguards’ from Russia for the security of its most powerful air defense system S-400 ‘Triumph’. The name of this ‘bodyguard’ is Pantsir (Pantsir-S1M). This system will not only protect the S-400, but will also destroy enemy drones and cruise missiles in the blink of an eye.
Pantsir will become the ‘bodyguard’ of S-400
Defense experts believe that the S-400 is adept at shooting down long-range missiles, but protecting it from small drones and ‘kamikaze’ attacks coming from short distances was a big challenge. Russia has now offered India the Pantsir-S1M, which is specifically designed to protect the S-400. This is a hybrid system, which is equipped with powerful missiles as well as two 30mm automatic guns. It is capable of destroying any threat that comes within a range of about 30 kilometers from the ground.
The era of enemy drones and missiles
Recent wars, especially the Russia-Ukraine conflict, have proven that in modern warfare, cheap drones and drone swarms can defeat even the largest defense systems. Pantsir fills this gap. This system is equipped with radar and electro-optical tracking, which can easily track even the smallest targets. Now the enemy’s ‘low-flying’ cruise missiles will also be destroyed even before they enter the Indian border.
Make in India will get a big boost
According to sources, the Indian government is considering doing this deal with Russia through the ‘Government to Government’ (G2G) route. The special thing is that initially some systems will come ready from Russia, but after this they will be manufactured in India under ‘Make in India’. Indigenous defense organizations like Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) can play an important role in this project. This will give new strength to India’s defense preparedness as well as self-reliance.
Increased vigilance after Operation ‘Sindoor’
During the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Indian Air Force had proved its strength. Russia is also preparing to hand over the remaining two units of S-400 to India between May and November this year. The Defense Ministry has already approved the procurement of additional missiles for the S-400 at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. Now with the arrival of Pantsir, India’s air defense network will be transformed into a ‘multi-layer’ security shield, which will be impossible for any enemy to penetrate.
