News India Live, Digital Desk: Do you also have chopped or old notes? Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Has now found a unique and environmentally-oriented solution for these useless notes. From now on, notes will be destroyed by old and out of practice, but they will be made ‘barkings’, which will be used as fuel.
Under the RBI’s ‘Clean Note Policy’, the central bank periodically keeps the old, dirty or mutilated notes out of circulation so that the flow of clean notes remains in the market. Earlier these notes were cut into pieces from machines and then either used to landfill (pressed into the ground) or in some cases it was used in creating handicrafts.
But now RBI has adopted a new method. A new arrangement has been made in various Issue Office of RBI across the country:

Credit of notes: The older and useless notes are first cut into fine pieces.

Compression and Barking Construction: These chopped pieces are compressed in small, solid blocks by putting excessive pressure by machines, which are called ‘barks’.

Use as fuel: These bikes are solids like brick and will be used as fuel in various industries, especially industrial boilers.
Why was this decision taken?
This step is important in many ways:

Environmental protection: This will reduce the waste going into landfill, which will reduce the negative effects on the environment. It is a model of a kind of ‘waste to energy’.

Efficiency: This makes the process of disposal of old notes more efficient.

Reconstruction of resources: Useless resources are being reused in a useful manner.
Recently, 2000 rupee notes were also withdrawn from circulation, most of which have been deposited in banks. All these notes will also be converted into barkatches under this new process. It shows that RBI is playing its role not only in currency management, but also in environmental protection.
