Train ticket booking: Indian Railways is going to make a big change in the rules of online train ticket booking from 1 October 2025. What is the new rule?
According to the new rule, only 15 minutes after the reservation is opened from October 1, only users with Aadhaar verified account will be able to book general reservation tickets through the IRCTC website and app. This rule was earlier implemented for Tatkal ticket booking from July 2025, and now it will also apply to general reservation. However, this rule will not apply for ticket booking at the PRS counter of the railway, and the process will continue as before.
What is the purpose of this rule?
The main objective of the Railways is to stop the brokerage of tickets and ensure that tickets reach the real passengers. Through Aadhaar verification, railway wants to bring transparency in ticket booking, so that wholesale booking of tickets can be stopped. This rule will make the availability of tickets even more equal, especially during the festive season.
Railway Board Order
The Railway Board recently issued an order in this regard, stating that this rule is being implemented to ensure that the benefits of the reservation system reach the common passengers and brokers should not misuse it. It has also been clarified in the order that only Aadhaar verified users will be able to book tickets online for the first 15 minutes.
What should be done?
If you want to book tickets from IRCTC website or app, complete your Aadhaar verification immediately. For this, log in to your IRCTC account, enter your Aadhaar number and get it verified. After opening the reservation from 1 October, it will not be possible to book tickets without Aadhaar verification for the first 15 minutes.
