There is an outcry in North-West India due to the heat of the sun and the scorching heat. Everyone’s eyes are now fixed towards the sky and there is only one question on the tongue, where is the monsoon and when will it arrive? The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted that the southwest monsoon could hit the Kerala coast around May 26. However, even after that date has passed, the Meteorological Department has not yet officially announced the arrival of monsoon, even though rains continue in many parts of Kerala.
Meteorologists say that it is very normal for the arrival of monsoon to be early or delayed by four days. If we look at last year’s figures, monsoon had entered Kerala on May 24 itself, but this time the conditions seem to have changed a bit.
Why did the monsoon slow down?
Generally, the normal date of arrival of monsoon in Kerala is considered to be June 1. This year it was expected that it would arrive before time, but at the last moment its pace slowed down. According to meteorologists, the main reason for this delay in monsoon is the weakening of monsoon winds. Along with this, the continuous and heavy rains that should occur in the coastal areas of Kerala are not being seen at present.
Weather experts also believe that due to the cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, the direction and speed of monsoon winds has been affected, due to which its speed has slowed down. However, it is a matter of relief that according to scientists, this slowness of monsoon is not a matter of much concern and it will soon pick up pace again.
How far has the monsoon reached yet? Know the latest situation
According to the latest bulletin issued by IMD on Thursday, conditions are now becoming completely favorable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon. There is every possibility of Monsoon advancing rapidly into some more parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep and Bay of Bengal within the coming 2 to 3 days.
Let us tell you that more than 70 percent of the total rainfall in India throughout the year falls in this monsoon season. This is the reason why timely arrival of this monsoon is considered very important for the country’s agriculture, drinking water supply, power generation (hydropower projects) and recharging ground water.
When will there be relief from heat in Delhi-UP and Rajasthan?
According to the latest forecasts, Monsoon may become fully active over Kerala and Tamil Nadu by June 1, which is also its normal date. But the people of North India including Delhi-NCR will have to wait a little longer for the drops of relief.
The normal date of arrival of monsoon in the capital Delhi is 30 June. At the same time, monsoon is expected to reach some parts of Uttar Pradesh around June 15 and the sandy areas of Rajasthan by June 25. Till then these states will have to rely on pre-monsoon activities and local weather systems.
Rain alert in these states for next 3-4 days
Even though there is some time for the main monsoon to arrive, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain in many states of the country. According to IMD, there may be thundershowers in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh from May 28 to 31.
Apart from this, rain is expected in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand from May 28 to 30 and Himachal Pradesh on May 28 and 29. Talking about Eastern India, there are chances of heavy rains in Bihar on 28th and 29th May, in Ganga coastal areas of West Bengal on 28th May and in Odisha on 29th and 30th May, due to which the temperature will drop.
