
People facing scorching heat and humidity across the country are seeing two different colors of weather. On one hand, the south-west monsoon has reached its full speed, on the other hand, the plains of North India are still scorching. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), while issuing a major update for June 28, 2026, has issued a mega-alert of heavy to very heavy rains, strong thunderstorms and lightning in about 25 states of the country. Torrential rains are going to be a disaster in many states, while heat wave will still continue in some parts of North India.
According to meteorologists, at present the northern limit of monsoon is passing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj and Motihari. It is a matter of relief that within the next 3 to 4 days, conditions remain completely favorable for the monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar as well as some more new areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Red alert of extremely heavy rain: torrential trouble in Assam, Meghalaya and Bengal
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding torrential and extremely heavy rains in the northeastern and hilly areas of the country on June 28. People living in these areas have been advised to take special precautions:

Assam and Meghalaya: There is a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places in these two states and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, increasing the risk of floods in low-lying areas.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim: In this hilly region too, there is a strong possibility of record-breaking rainfall in isolated pockets along with torrential rainfall at many places, which may lead to landslides.

Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala-Mahe: Heavy cloud cover and heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been predicted at different places in these areas.
Badra will rain in these parts of the country including Bihar
According to the latest bulletin of IMD, apart from the Northeast, many other parts of the country will also receive widespread rainfall on June 28. The major states affected are as follows:

Eastern and North-Eastern India: There is every possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Bihar and Odisha. Along with this, alert of heavy rain has also been issued in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Central and Western India: There is a possibility of heavy rain in different areas of Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha (Maharashtra) and Konkan and Goa.

South India: Heavy rain is expected over isolated parts of Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During this period, strong and gusty surface winds may also occur in coastal Karnataka.
Storm surge from Delhi-NCR to Rajasthan and UP
Along with rain, the Meteorological Department has also advised people to be alert regarding high speed winds and lightning in many states:

Thunderstorm in Andaman and Nicobar: There is a severe possibility of thunderstorm with gale speed reaching 50-60 kmph at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Thunderstorm with speed of 40-50 km/hr and lightning: There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, dust storm and lightning at isolated places in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, East Rajasthan, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu.

Winds of 30-40 km/h: Gustsy winds with speed of 30-40 km per hour may occur over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka and Sikkim. There is a possibility of lightning along with thunder in Punjab, Chhattisgarh and other North-Eastern states.
Heat wave wreaks havoc in Delhi-NCR, UP and Bihar; Know when you will get relief
While on one hand the monsoon clouds are drenching large parts of the country, on the other hand some parts of North and East India will have to face the double blow of scorching heat and humidity for two to three more days:

Uttar Pradesh: There is no news of relief for the people of UP yet. A serious warning has been given that conditions ranging from heat wave to severe heat wave will persist in different areas of entire Uttar Pradesh (Eastern and Western UP).

Delhi and Bihar: There is a possibility of heat wave in different pockets of Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh and Bihar on June 28, due to which heat wave will be felt during the day.
Relief date: However, the Meteorological Department estimates that after June 28, the temperature in eastern India will drop by 2-4°C. At the same time, in North-西北 (North-West) and Central India, the mercury may fall down to 4-6°C after June 30, due to which people will get a big relief from this deadly heat with the beginning of July.
Avoid going into the sea: Red warning issued for fishermen
Due to the activation of various weather systems and deep depression, the situation in the sea is going to be extremely dangerous and turbulent. Therefore, the Meteorological Department has given strict instructions to fishermen not to go to these areas:

Arunachal/Arabian Sea: Stormy winds with speed ranging from 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph will occur along Somalia coast and parts of south-west and central Arabian Sea. Apart from this, winds will blow at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in South Konkan, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala coast and Lakshadweep region.

Bay of Bengal: There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40-50 km per hour in the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, South-West and South-Eastern Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman Sea, which may cause high waves.
