Monsoon Express speeds up: IMD issues heavy rain alert in 27 states including Bihar-UP and Delhi, know how the weather will be till July 3


The weather patterns are changing rapidly across the country as the South-West Monsoon is now in full swing. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), while issuing a major weather bulletin, has issued a mega-alert of heavy to very heavy rain and strong thunderstorm for the coming days in about 27 states of the country including Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, till July 3, 2026, the weather pattern will remain changed in the entire country and there is a possibility of widespread heavy rain.

At present the northern limit of monsoon is passing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj and Motihari. It is a matter of relief that within the next 3 to 4 days, the conditions remain completely favorable for the rapid advance of Monsoon into North Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and some more new areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Disaster rain in Northeast India and Bengal-Sikkim: Red alert issued

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert predicting torrential rains in the hilly areas of Northeast India and West Bengal. The risk of landslides in these hilly areas and floods in low-lying areas has increased:

  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim: There is a strong possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in these areas during June 27 to 29. After this, there will be very heavy rains on 30th June also, while the period of heavy rains will continue from 1st to 3rd July.

  • Assam and Meghalaya: There is an alert of very heavy rain at different places in these two states on June 27 and again on June 29-30. The most severe situation is likely to occur on June 28, when a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall will be in force in Assam and Meghalaya. After this, heavy rains will continue here from 1st to 3rd July also.

  • Arunachal Pradesh: Here, very heavy rain is expected at isolated places during June 27 to 29, while heavy rain can be recorded from June 30 to July 2.

  • Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura: There is a possibility of heavy rain at different places in these four northeastern states from June 27 to July 3.

Condition of Eastern India including Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha

  • Bihar: There is a possibility of heavy rain at different places in Bihar on June 27 and 28. After this, an alert has been issued for very heavy rain at some places in the state on June 29 and 30. There will be heavy rain here on July 1 also, while lightning is expected during June 27 to 29 and winds at a speed of 30-40 km per hour are expected between June 30 to July 1.

  • Odisha: Heavy rain may occur in Odisha from 27 to 29 June and again on 2-3 July. According to the Meteorological Department, very heavy rains may be recorded at some places in Odisha on June 30 and July 1.

  • Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal: There is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in these two states on June 30 and July 1. Along with this, strong winds (40-50 km/hr) and thunderstorms will continue from June 27 to July 3.

  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Heavy rain is expected here on 28th and 29th June. Also, an alert has been issued for thunderstorms moving at a speed of 50-60 km per hour from June 28 to July 1.

How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR, UP and North-West India?

  • Delhi, Haryana and Punjab: There is a possibility of scattered rain over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab from June 27 to June 24 till July 2, while these areas may receive widespread heavy rainfall on July 3. During July 1 to 3, strong winds at a speed of 40-50 km per hour and lightning are expected in these states.

  • Uttar Pradesh: Scattered rainfall is likely over eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 27 to 30 and then widespread rainfall during July 1 to 3. Western Uttar Pradesh will see a spell of rain from June 29 to July 3, accompanied by thunderstorms with speeds of 40-50 kmph between June 30 and July 3.

  • Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir: Widespread rainfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand from June 30 to July 3. There is an alert of heavy rain in Uttarakhand between June 30 and July 3 and in Jammu and Kashmir on July 2-3.

  • Himachal Pradesh: There is a possibility of widespread rain and heavy rain between July 1 and 3.

  • Rajasthan: Rain and storm activities are expected to continue in eastern and western Rajasthan from June 27 to July 3. Winds can blow at a speed of 30-40 km per hour in western Rajasthan.

Rain alert in Central, Western and South India

  • Madhya Pradesh: There is a possibility of heavy rain in Western Madhya Pradesh on June 27 and again on June 29-30. Heavy rain may occur in East Madhya Pradesh on June 27 and 29, while widespread rain is expected between July 2 and 3.

  • Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha: In both Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha regions, there has been a warning of heavy rain at different places from June 27 to July 3.

  • Konkan and Goa: There is a possibility of continuous widespread heavy rains here from June 27 to July 3.

  • Central Maharashtra and Marwara: There is a possibility of heavy rain in Central Maharashtra and Marathwada on June 27 and again between July 1 and 3.

  • Gujarat Region: Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Gujarat region on July 2 and 3.

  • Coastal Karnataka and Telangana: There is an alert of heavy rain at different places in both these areas from June 27 to July 3.

  • Kerala and Mahe: There is a possibility of heavy rain here on June 27 and again from June 30 to July 3. However, very heavy rains are expected in different areas of Kerala and Mahe on June 28 and 29.

  • Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh: Heavy rain and strong winds with speed of 40-50 km per hour are expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during June 27 to 29. There is an alert of heavy rain in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on June 27-28 and July 1-3.

Warning of severe heat wave in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar amid rain

While the monsoon is progressing, the Meteorological Department has predicted a double attack of extreme heat and humidity for the next two days in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar:

  • Uttar Pradesh: Heat wave conditions will persist in Western Uttar Pradesh from June 27 to 29 and in Eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 27 to 30. Of these, on 27th and 28th June, in different pockets of both the regions (Eastern and Western UP). Severe Heat Wave There is a possibility of an outbreak.

  • Bihar: Heat wave conditions may be seen in some limited areas of Bihar on June 27 and 28.

  • humid weather: The weather in Jharkhand and Odisha is likely to be extremely hot and humid on June 27, due to which people will sweat. However, with the beginning of July, these states will get complete relief from the heat.
