This year, Maruti is planning to add several hybrid models to its portfolio, and this is evidenced by the recent testing conducted on Indian roads. While earlier the Maruti Swift Hybrid was seen testing on the roads of Delhi NCR, now the Frontex Hybrid has been seen testing on the roads of Gurgaon (Gurugram). The latest spy shots also show ‘Hybrid’ badging on the rear of the Front, raising hopes that it could be launched in the Indian market soon.
This model was seen driving without any cover. The model seen testing had a ‘Hybrid’ badge on the right side above the ‘Fronx’ badging. In the standard model this badge is on the left side. According to reports, the strong hybrid system being developed by Maruti could be paired with the new Z12E engine, which is already available in the new Swift.
This hybrid system of Maruti will be different from the strong hybrid setup being used in existing cars like Grand Vitara and Invicto. This will be a range extender system, where the petrol powertrain will be used to recharge the battery pack. The wheels will not be driven by a petrol engine, but by an electric motor.
Suzuki has found an affordable way to create this new strong hybrid system, so that it can be used in entry-level SUVs like the Ford Figo. This strong hybrid system can also be introduced in new models like the upcoming next-gen Baleno. Talking about Z12E petrol engine, it generates power of 81.58 PS and 111.7 Nm. With the new Swift, fuel efficiency is 24.8 km/l with manual transmission and 25.75 km/l with AMT.
The fuel efficiency of the Front Strong Hybrid can be more than 30 km/l. Currently, the Bronx has a 1.2-litre K-series engine, which produces 89.73 PS and 113 Nm of power. It is available with 5MT and 5AMT transmission options, with fuel efficiency of 21.79 km/l with manual and 22.89 km/l with AMT.
