There have been reports from many parts of the state including Mumbai and Pune that non-Marathi-speaking people are being harassed only because of their language. Many videos have gone viral on social media, in which Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers are seen misbehaving with those who are unable to speak Marathi language. Now political mercury has also climbed on this issue. Bhojpuri cinema actor and BJP leader Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirhua’ has directly challenged the Thackeray family by jumping into the controversy. He said that if Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have courage, they should come out of Maharashtra. Nirhua said, “I do not speak Marathi, speak Bhojpuri and live in Maharashtra. If you have courage, show me out of Maharashtra.” He also added that the real beauty of the country is in its linguistic diversity. Every state and community has its own mother tongue and the power of the country is hidden in this diversity. The leaders also reacted to Nirhua’s statement and said that if he is so courageous, show it by visiting Maharashtra. At the same time, the BJP leader also said that the entire matter is being given political color. He appealed to the people that it is not only wrong to discriminate against anyone about the language, but it is also against the law. State Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already said that it is perfect to proud of Marathi language, but it is unacceptable to harass or violence in the name of language.
