Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is currently in the grip of severe and record-breaking heat. Amidst this scorching heat and sun, the unannounced power cuts happening for hours in various areas of the city have broken the patience of the people. In big residential areas like Rajajipuram, Dubagga and Talkatora of Lucknow, the anger of the consumers has come out on the streets due to the ongoing electricity and water crisis.
This tough issue took a political turn on Wednesday morning when local Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Arman Khan himself reached Talkatora Electricity Substation with bitter complaints of consumers. When the Executive Engineer (XEN) was found missing there, the MLAs got enraged and sat on a strict dharna inside the sub-centre premises.
Employees hid by locking electricity offices, police took charge
Many bitter pictures of cult uproar and protests have emerged in the last 48 hours in different power houses of the capital:
1. Siege at FCI Power House
There was complete power failure in Janta Vihar Colony under FCI sub-centre of Lesa for the last 24 hours. The supply was halted after a massive fire broke out in the transformer and AB cable on Monday night. When people’s temper rose on Tuesday night, dozens of consumers surrounded the power house from all sides and raised strong slogans against the electricity department. Seeing the increasing anger, the Cult Electricity employees locked the main gate and hid inside. Later, the police intervened diplomatically and pacified the crowd by assuring that the supply would be restored at 2 o’clock in the night.
2. Hundreds of people kept suffering throughout the night in Awadh Enclave.
Two tight transformers were destroyed due to overloading in Begaria area under Basantkunj sub-centre of Dubagga. Due to burning of cable of Mulla Tanker transformer on Monday night, hundreds of families of Vishal City and Awadh Enclave were forced to suffer without electricity and water throughout the night in the scorching heat. It was somehow started on Tuesday afternoon by inserting a new cable, but at 7 pm the cable got burnt again in the street of former Union Minister of State Kaushal Kishore.

Due to the extreme heat, the load on the transformers has increased far beyond the capacity, causing severe problems of tripping and faults at the diplomatic level:

SP MLA Armaan Khan, who was sitting on the dharna, made a strong and diplomatic attack on the top officials of the electricity department. He alleged that when the entire city is suffering without electricity and water in the scorching temperature of more than 45 degrees, the responsible XENs and SDOs are missing from their offices and homes.
The MLA has given a stern warning that unless diplomatic and uninterrupted supply of electricity is ensured by installing additional transformers in Talkatora and Rajajipuram areas and strict punitive action is not taken against the guilty negligent officers, their cult strike will not end.
