News India Live, Digital Desk: Maharashtra Government’s Initiative: The Government of Maharashtra has taken an important and far -reaching step in 2006 in connection with the horrific serial bomb blasts that shocked the local trains of Mumbai. The government has decided to challenge the accused of these blasts in the Supreme Court, which were acquitted by the lower court and later the High Court. The purpose of this decision is to ensure that all responsible persons of this heinous crime could come under the dock of justice. These blasts took place in the suburban railway of Mumbai, in which 209 people were killed and more than 700 were injured. These terrorist attacks shocked the entire country and targeted the lifeline of the country’s financial capital. After investigation and hearing, a special POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) court ruled in the case in 2015. At that time, the court convicted 12 accused – 7 of whom were sentenced to death and 5 were sentenced to life imprisonment. However, in the same judgment, 13 other accused were acquitted giving the benefit of suspicion. Later, when the matter went to the Bombay High Court, the High Court upheld some decisions of the lower court, including the decision of these acquitted accused. Now the state government has decided to knock the door of the Supreme Court afresh against these acquitted persons. This step of the government is a new ray of hope for the victims and their families, who have been waiting for justice for so many years. The state government believes that there is enough evidence against these acquitted persons and it is necessary to take the matter to the Supreme Court in the interest of justice. This step reflects the government’s resolve to improve possible deficiencies in the justice process and ensure intensive consultation on all aspects related to this heinous crime. In the Supreme Court, the case reopening has raised the hope of reaching the final truth related to this murder and finally justice to the victims.
