Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Ludhiana West, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died after being shot late on Friday night. In a critical condition, he was taken to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana, where doctors declared him brought dead. The tragic incident happened at his home when he was having dinner in his room after returning from a function.

It is being told that suddenly the sound of gunshot came from Gogi’s room. His wife, Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, heard the sound and rushed to the room and found him bleeding. He was immediately taken to DMC Hospital, but his life could not be saved. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Gogi was shot from his own licensed pistol.
As soon as information about the incident was received, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal, DCP Shubham Aggarwal, ADCP Ramandeep Bhullar and ACP Akarshi Jain reached the spot. Security arrangements were tightened around DMC Hospital.
Doubt over the reasons for the incident
The police have not yet officially confirmed the reason for the shooting. However, according to initial reports, MLA Gogi was cleaning his licensed revolver when the accident occurred. The Police Commissioner and other officers are busy investigating the case.
Gurpreet Gogi: Journey from Congress to AAP
Gurpreet Bassi Gogi did active politics in Congress for 23 years. He was the district head of Congress and councilor thrice. He also held the post of Chairman of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation in the Congress government.
Before the Punjab Assembly elections 2022, Gogi left Congress and joined Aam Aadmi Party. AAP fielded him from Ludhiana West, where he won by about 40,000 votes. The pictures of him filing nomination on his scooter were much discussed at that time.

Gurpreet Gogi’s wife, Dr. Sukhchain Bassi, was a candidate from Ward No. 61 in the recently held Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections. However, she lost to Congress’s Parminder Kaur by a margin of 86 votes.
