News India Live, Digital Desk: GST Relief: Ever since the E20 fuel (20% ethanol petrol) is being promoted in the country, there has been a debate about it. Many people and experts have expressed concern that it is not good for the engine of new fuel vehicles and it also affects the mileage. Now amidst all these criticisms and questions, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has landed in the field. He has dismissed all these concerns as “a paid campaign inspired by politics”.

Speaking at a program by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Nitin Gadkari made it clear that this step of the government is in the interest of the country, environment and farmers, all three and there is no question of retreating from it.

How did Gadkari answer critics?

Nitin Gadkari, while counting the benefits of E20 fuel, said:

1. Huge reduction in pollution: He said that the use of E20 petrol reduces 50% (in motorcycle) and 30% (in cars) in the emission of carbon monoxide, which makes it a great option for the environment.
2. The country’s money will be saved: Gadkari insisted that the biggest reason for promoting ethanol is to reduce our dependence on crude oil imports. India buys crude oil worth about Rs 16 lakh crore every year. If we increase the use of domestic and cheap fuel like ethanol, then this money will remain in the country and will go to the farmers’ pockets.
3. Farmers’ income will increase: He said, “This fuel is going to change the lives of farmers. It will make the economy self -sufficient.” Ethanol is mainly made up of agricultural products such as sugarcane, maize and rice. Due to increasing demand, farmers’ income will increase directly.

“There is no engine problem, all has been tested”

On the questions arising about the impact of E20 fuel on the engine of the vehicles, Gadkari said that all the automobile companies have made new BS-6 Phase 2 engines compatible with E20 and all kinds of testing have been done before launching. He said that no one should have any misunderstanding in this matter.

Demand for exemption in GST for scraping old car

Along with presenting his side on E20, Gadkari said another big thing which is directly related to the common man’s pocket. He appealed to the Finance Ministry that those who buy new vehicles by scrapping their old vehicles (in junk) should be given some relief in GST.

He said, “Scraping policy is very important to reduce pollution and I myself am talking to the Finance Minister on this matter.” If this demand is accepted, then buying a new car can be cheaper and old, pollution cars from the roads will also be reduced.

Nitin Gadkari’s statement makes it clear that the government is completely firm about alternative fuel and pollution control and will not back down under any kind of pressure.
