New Delhi: Protests have started among party leaders and workers for filing chargesheets against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case. The Congress alleged that the charge sheet filed by the ED against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi proves the government’s nervousness.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said that the action of ED in the National Herald case and the file by the central government to file a charge sheet against Sonia and Rahul reflects not only his disappointment but also their mental and moral bankruptcy. The ED has filed a chargesheet against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others alleging money refinement in the National Herald case. Special Judge Vishal Gogane examined the important aspects of the charge sheet filed on 9 April and fixed the next date of hearing 25 April.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said about the developments so far in the National Herald case that on 10 April 2024, the Tribunal confirmed the interim order of the seizure ED. The charge sheet was to be filed within 365 days. He says that this fake charge sheet was filed on the 365th day i.e. 9 April 2025, which has been made public today.

Attack by Congress workers

Congress workers staged violent protests across the country including Delhi and accused the central government of misusing the central agencies against the opposition parties. Activists gathered outside the party headquarters at Akbar Road in Delhi and criticized it, calling it “an attempt to strangle democracy”. During the protest, Congress leaders interacted with the media that the charge sheet filed against party president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi is completely baseless and illegal. He also alleged that institutions like ED and CBI are being misused to target the opposition. This protest was not limited to Delhi only, but similar protests were held outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other central government offices across the country. Congress workers have also accused the party of “conspiracy to suppress the voice of the opposition”.
