India’s stance on trade is clear, there is no compromise with farmers, fishermen and faith:

News India Live, Digital Desk: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given a big and clear message about India’s trade policy. He has said that India is willing to increase business with the world, but it will never be at the cost of farmers, fishermen and basic beliefs or national interests of the country. He made it clear that no compromise will be made with these three important pillars in any free trade agreement (FTA).

Piyush Goyal insisted that the government aims to make a business agreement which are beneficial for the country and in which both sides win. “Our effort is on compromising with countries whose economies are supplemented by us, not competitive.” This means that India will prioritize trade with countries where both countries benefit, not an agreement that will harm India’s domestic industries.

The government has extensive discussions with all the concerned parties before signing any trade agreement. Piyush Goyal assured that protecting the interests of MSMEs, farmers and industry is the highest priority of the government and no compromise will be compromised in any talks.

This statement comes at a time when India, Britain, European Union and America, are interacting with important trade agreements with many countries and business groups. Goyal’s message makes clear that along with emerging as a major force in global trade, India is also committed to protecting the livelihood of its millions of people who depend on areas such as agriculture and fisheries. He clarified that no trade agreement can be above the national interest.
