India has become the first country to cross the world’s most sensitive sea route, the Strait of Hormuz. According to recent reports, a total of 8 Indian tankers have safely transited this dangerous route so far, which is the highest compared to any other country. It is the result of India’s strong foreign policy and better coordination with Iran that India’s gas and oil supply continues uninterrupted even in the environment of war.

Due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel-America, the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz is almost at a standstill, but the routes to India remain open. Iran has kept India in the list of ‘preferred countries’ whose ships it is giving safe passage to. Iran’s embassy has given a clear message on social media that “Our Indian friends are in safe hands, there is no need to worry.” On the basis of this trust, giant tankers like Shivalik, Nanda Devi, Jag Ladki and Green Sanwari are reaching Indian ports carrying millions of metric tons of LPG and crude oil.
Close watch on 18 Indian ships and 485 sailors
Even though 8 ships have come out safely, the government is still not showing any laxity. According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, around 18 Indian-flagged ships and 485 sailors are currently present in the western Persian Gulf region. The movement of these ships is being tracked every second in collaboration with the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. Mukesh Mangal, additional secretary of the ministry, has confirmed that all Indian sailors are safe and all possible steps are being taken for their safety.
India became number one by defeating China and Russia
The statistics of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has increased India’s stature at the global level. While countries like China and Russia are also making bold moves with their ships, India has set an example by registering the highest number of successful transits (8 ships). This will not only help in keeping the prices of LPG and petrol stable in the domestic market, but also proves India’s ‘soft power’ and strategic reach on the global stage.
