Nitin Gadkari on EV: The demand for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly in India. The government is also constantly focusing on this vehicle. Keeping this in mind, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big statement and said that in the next two years the price of electric cars will be equal to that of petrol and diesel cars. Nitin Gadkari made this statement during the 64th ACMA Annual Session.
I have no problem with giving subsidy on electric vehicles.
Gadkari further said that I have no problem with the Finance Minister giving subsidy on electric vehicles. However, earlier he had suggested that EV manufacturers no longer need subsidies as their production cost has come down and consumers are now choosing electric vehicles. Last year, the market share of electric vehicles in India was 6.3%, which is 50% more than its previous year.
I am not against petrol and diesel
The minister also clarified that I am not against petrol-diesel but India has to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, which currently cost Rs 22 lakh crore. Along with this, Gadkari emphasized on the adoption of electric vehicles and biofuels like ethanol.
Farmers are benefiting from ethanol production
Not only this, Nitin Gadkari gave the example of the recently launched world's first CNG bike Bajaj CNG and said that the cost of this bike is Rs 1 per kilometer, while the cost of petrol bike is more than Rs 2. Gadkari says that farmers are benefiting from the production of ethanol. He said that the price of corn has doubled due to the increasing demand for ethanol as a biofuel.
