If there is 78 percent reservation in Tamil Nadu then why not 75 percent in Maharashtra: Sharad Pawar | News India

Mumbai: By playing the reservation card before the assembly elections in Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar has angered the BJP by demanding the Narendra Modi government at the Center to remove the limit of 50 percent reservation in government jobs and education and increase it to 75 percent.

Sharad Pawar also challenged the Central government to bring a bill to amend the Constitution to increase the limit of reservation in education and government jobs from 50 per cent to 75 per cent. Pawar said that if a bill to amend the Constitution is brought to increase the limit of reservation, we will support it in Parliament.

Answering the question of journalists in Sangli regarding the solution to the problem of Maratha reservation movement, Sharad Pawar said that if 78 percent reservation can be done in Tamil Nadu, then why can't it be 75 percent in Maharashtra? The Center should remove the 50 percent cap on reservation and allow states to increase the amount of reservation. Pawar admitted that the Maharashtra government cannot increase the reservation ratio because the problem is that no government has the authority to exceed the 50 per cent limit of the reservation ratio. If any state wants to give more reservation, then it is necessary to bring a law in the Parliament to change it, hence the Modi government has had to make this change.

Dalit leaders are also angry with Pawar's statement

Political experts believe that this statement of Sharad Pawar has heated up politics, but some resentment is also being seen among the people. Political claims are being made that especially Dalit and backward class people are facing more problems.

Eknath Shinde's government termed Sharad Pawar's statement as political opportunism and questioned why Pawar was raising this issue before the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Shiv Sena wants to know what Pawar did to resolve this issue when he was the Chief Minister? Dalit leaders have also criticized Sharad Pawar for his reservation statement, but according to political analysts, Pawar has worsened the condition of BJP by raising a big issue.
