What is the offer of Rs 10 lakh?
Actually, Giriraj Singh had reached a program in Barauni of his parliamentary constituency Begusarai. There he said a very simple thing to the Panchayat representatives and villagers.
He appealed that if the people of the village, with mutual consent, without any fight, NDA supported candidates Or BJP If the people choose a person with ideology as their representative (Mukhiya or Panchayat member), then he will be happy.
And in this joy he promised:
“If you elect such a representative unanimously (unopposed), then as soon as the results of the election are declared, I will immediately withdraw funds from my MPLAD Fund. 10 lakh rupees I will give it for the development of the village.”
The minister also said, “Neither do I need to file an application nor write a letter. Just show the results and take the funds.”
Why the emphasis on ‘unopposed’ elections?
Giriraj Singh argued that due to elections, rivalries and fights often increase in villages. People become enemies of each other. If the people of the village sit together and elect only one person as the leader (Samras Panchayat), then brotherhood will remain.
But, the condition he added to this appeal of being “BJP or NDA supported” made it a political issue.
The opposition shouted: “This is a bribe!”
As soon as the minister’s video went viral, the opposition attacked him. RJD and other parties say that this is a kind of ‘Electoral Inducement’ Is. In a democracy, luring money in exchange for voting (even if it is in the name of development) is considered against the code of conduct.
People are raising questions whether development money will be given only to those villages which support BJP?

On one hand, it can be argued that unopposed elections reduce conflicts in villages and with Rs 10 lakh, roads or tubes will be built in the village, which is a good thing.
On the other hand, the question is that elections in a democracy itself means ‘competition’. If the competition is ended by offering money, will the public be able to find the right option?
