Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar was not included during the expansion of the Devendra Fadnavis-led cabinet in Maharashtra. Responding to this, Mungantiwar said that he is not disappointed by this and he will continue to fulfill his responsibilities towards the organization. However, he also claimed that his name was in the list of ministers who took oath, but was later removed.
Mungantiwar’s restrained statement
Mungantiwar said, “I will continue to work for the people of my constituency and raise issues of their welfare in the Assembly.” He stressed that he is an organization man and is ready to take up any responsibility given by the party.
According to Mungantiwar, he was earlier informed about his inclusion in the cabinet, but his name was removed at the last moment. He said, “I don’t know why my name was removed. There is nothing to be disappointed about. Whatever role the party gives me, I will play it with full honesty.”
Devendra Fadnavis’s assurance
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on this issue that Mungantiwar is a senior leader and any other important responsibility can be assigned to him. Fadnavis said, “I have spoken to Mungantiwar. The party leadership will assign him some other role considering his experience and ability.”
Cabinet expansion details
A total of 39 MLAs of the Mahayuti alliance took oath as ministers in the swearing-in ceremony held in Nagpur on Sunday. These include:
- BJP: 19 ministers
- Shiv Sena (Shinde faction): 11 ministers
- Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction): 9 ministers
Of these, 33 are cabinet ministers and 6 are ministers of state.
Sudhir Mungantiwar’s absence and meeting with Gadkari
Mungantiwar was present in Nagpur, but did not participate in the first day of the legislature session. When asked if the party leadership was angry with him, he said, “If so, they will call me and let me know. The party can give me some other responsibility.”
On Monday, Mungantiwar met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at his Nagpur residence. There is speculation regarding this meeting that the party may soon hand him some new responsibility.
Bawankule’s statement on Ramdas Athawale’s displeasure
Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Ramdas Athawale’s displeasure that the swearing-in ceremony was to be held on the 14th, but its venue had to be changed as the MLAs had already reached Nagpur. He said, “I had sent invitations to all the parties, but could not send the invitation to Ramdas Athawale. I have apologized to him for this. He has a big place in the Mahayuti and we respect him.”
