
Trial runs of hydrogen train are starting in India from today. According to reports, it will be tested on the Sonipat route from Jind, Haryana. If this test is successful, regular service of hydrogen train will be first started on this route and later it will be applied to other small routes in the country.

The proposed speed of hydrogen train in India will be around 110 km per hour. This is faster than the normal passenger trains, although trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi or Vande Bharat Express will be slow. But in the routes where there are still low speed trains, passengers will be able to save time at the speed of hydrogen train.

Many developed countries of the world have already started adopting this technology. The world’s first commercial hydrogen train ‘Koradia Aayalint’ has started in Germany. Hydrogen trains are also being developed and tested in Japan, France, China and Britain. The UK had taken a major initiative for the hydrogen train in 2020 and is working towards implementing this technology in the railway network there.
