News India Live, Digital Desk: Just before the holy festival of Ram Navami, Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand is once again on fire. On Tuesday, tremendous violence broke out during the Mangala procession in Lebra Jamua, located on the border of Barkatha and Gorhar police station areas. The dispute started over the route of the procession, which soon turned into a violent clash. The angry mob indiscriminately pelted stones at the police team, injuring more than half a dozen people, including four policemen. At present the entire area has been converted into a cantonment.

Controversy erupts over ‘forced’ procession without license According to administrative officials, the dispute started when an attempt was made to divert the Mangala procession from Tuio village from the fixed route. Police say that the villagers did not have the official license for the route through which they wanted to take the procession. When the police and magistrate tried to stop the procession and asked them to return to the designated route, the crowd went on a rampage. A scuffle started with the police and soon stones started being thrown.

SDM and SDPO attacked, police lathicharged As soon as information about the uproar was received, SDM John Tuddu and SDPO Ajit Kumar Vimal reached the spot with heavy police force. The officials tried to convince the people, but seeing the situation going out of control, the police had to use mild force (lathi charge). Angered by this, the villagers started pelting heavy stones at the police. The policemen injured in the attack were immediately admitted to the local hospital. Police have also seized several motorcycles from the spot and detained two suspects.

The matter is not communal, it is administration vs villagers SDM John Tuddu has clarified that this incident is not between two communities, but a clash between the administration and the villagers over the violation of the procession route. He has appealed to the people not to pay attention to any kind of rumours. However, the administration is fully alert in view of the recent incidents in other parts of the district. Sadar MLA of Hazaribagh has raised questions on the working style of the district administration regarding this incident, due to which the matter is now taking a political form.

Heavy police force deployed in the area, preparation for FIR After the incident, there is tense peace in Lebra Jamua and surrounding villages. Police are resorting to videography and local inputs to identify the miscreants. The SDPO has made it clear that those who take the law into their own hands will not be spared and named FIRs are being registered against the culprits. In view of the main procession of Ram Navami, Hazaribagh Police Headquarters has demanded additional force in sensitive areas so that such incidents are not repeated in future.
