The Pentagon has described India as its primary defense partner in South Asia. The statement said that the joint statement of President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made significant progress in the defense goals set in February 2025. Both countries discussed defense equipment purchases and industrial cooperation, which would further strengthen bilateral relations in the future.
Rajnath Singh’s discussion with Hegseth
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Rajnath Singh urged US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth to accelerate the supply of GE F404 engine for the Tejas fighter aircraft. He also advocated soon to finalize the agreement between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and American company GE Aerospace for joint production of F414 jet engine in India. The Indian Air Force has delayed the delivery of Tejas Mark 1A aircraft due to delay in supply of F404 engine.
Long -term cooperation in defense sector
According to the statement of the Indian Ministry of Defense, the two leaders discussed issues like long-term cooperation, training, military exchange and industrial cooperation in the defense sector. The agreement includes mutual operational capacity, integration of defense supply chains, sharing logistics, joint military exercises and cooperation with similar -ideology countries. The deal will give a new dimension to Indo-US relations.
