At present, a very scary, aggressive and dual form of nature is being seen in the weather across the country. On one hand, many states of North and Central India are burning in the furnace of scorching heat of the sun and record-breaking deadly heat wave, while on the other hand, a terrible orgy of storm, hailstorm and torrential rain is about to begin in a large part of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a very big and worrying alert for tomorrow i.e. Friday (22 May 2026) in its latest night weather bulletin.
According to meteorologists, dust storms with speed of 40 to 50 km per hour occurred in more than 17 states of the country yesterday and destructive tornadoes with speed of 60 km per hour in many sensitive places (Thundersquall) with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected. Along with this, the South-West Monsoon (Monsoon 2026) is also advancing rapidly, due to which diplomatic activity has increased significantly along the coasts of Kerala and the Andaman Sea.
Trough line becomes active in sky, half of India on alert
According to the IMD report, at present a very strong East-West Trough Line is active from north-west Uttar Pradesh to north-eastern Manipur state, which is passing over Bihar and West Bengal. Along with this, many areas of cyclonic winds (Cyclonic Circulations) remain. Due to this strong weather system, the weather will change in more than half of the country tomorrow. Tomorrow the wind speed in four major states of the country is going to be the most dangerous and destructive. The IMD has warned that:

Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Interior Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir: There is a strong possibility of severe thunderstorm/tornado with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour (gusts reaching up to 70 km/hour) and lightning at various places in these states tomorrow.
Red alert of extremely heavy rain in Bengal and Sikkim

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim: Nature’s most ferocious form may be seen tomorrow in these hilly areas, where an alert has been issued for torrential to very heavy rains.

There will be heavy rain here too: There are strong chances of heavy rains over isolated parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal tomorrow.
Double attack of hailstorm and dust storm

Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir: There is a possibility of widespread hailstorm along with severe cold storm in some parts of the hilly states tomorrow, which will bring down the temperature.

Punjab and Rajasthan: Severe dust storm is expected throughout the day in many plains of Punjab and Western Rajasthan, due to which visibility may be significantly reduced.
Lightning warning in more than 10 states
Tomorrow the weather will be very bad in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttarakhand. In all these states, strong winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour and there will be a high risk of lightning. Apart from this, there may be light rain along with lightning in the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Sun’s fire: Severe heatwave and ‘hot nights’ in Delhi, UP and Haryana
On one hand, half of India will be battling storms and rains, on the other hand, in the plains of North and Central India, the heat of the sun will continue to break all the old records. Bay of Bengal: Stormy winds will blow at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in the Gulf of Mannar, south-west and south-east Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Arabian Sea: There will be high waves in the sea at a speed of 45-55 km per hour around the Somalia coast. In view of this sensitivity of the weather, the government has given strict and final instructions to the fishermen not to venture into the deep sea.
