News India Live, Digital Desk: Questions have often been raised regarding the security of Aadhaar data, but now UIDAI has decided to give it more ‘hi-tech’ security. UIDAI has its first structured ‘Bug Bounty Programme’ Has been launched. Under this program, the country’s top cyber security experts will look for bugs in the digital ecosystem of Aadhaar so that they can be fixed in time.
What is UIDAI’s ‘Bug Bounty’ program?
A bug bounty is a competition or challenge in which companies invite independent researchers and hackers to find security flaws in their software or website. If a hacker successfully reports a technical flaw, he is given a huge cash reward and a certificate.
These digital platforms of UIDAI will be investigated:
official website: uidai.gov.in
myAadhaar Portal: The main portal used for Aadhaar updates and downloads.
Secure QR Code Application: Tool used for Aadhaar verification.
Who will get the reward? (Reward Categories)
UIDAI has divided the deficiencies into 4 categories based on severity. The amount of reward will depend on the severity:
Critical: Highest reward.
High (severe)
Medium
Low (Normal)
Who can participate? (Eligibility Criteria)
This program is not open to everyone, UIDAI has made strict rules for this:
Top Talent: Candidate’s name to global bug bounty leaderboard (e.g. HackerOne or Bugcrowd) top 100 Should be in.
Experience: Experience of working in security programs of big companies like Microsoft, Google or Apple is necessary.
Citizenship: It is mandatory for the participant to be an Indian citizen.
Signing NDA: The selected 20 experts will have to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
No collision: Current or last 7 years employees of UIDAI cannot participate in it.
How to apply?
Interested and eligible experts can send their applications to the official email ID of UIDAI bug-bounty.is@uidai.net.in. A special committee of UIDAI will scrutinize the applications and only the 20 best ethical hackers will be selected.
