News India Live, Digital Desk: Voting for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 is going on today i.e. on April 9 in a single phase on all 126 seats. Tremendous enthusiasm is being seen among the people of the state in the voting process which started from 7 am. According to the data till 3 pm, in Assam approximately 75.9% Voting has been recorded, indicating a major wave of power or change in the state. From Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, the fate of many stalwarts is being captured in EVMs today.
Giants in the field: tough competition from Jalukbari to Jorhat
The main contest in this election is believed to be between the ruling BJP led NDA and the Congress. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Voted in Jalukbari assembly constituency along with his wife and children. At the same time, the Congress is handling the front. Gaurav Gogoi Casted his vote in Jorhat. Other prominent candidates include Nazrul Islam, Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi, who exercised their franchise early in the morning. This is the first election in Assam which is being held with changed boundaries after the delimitation of 2023.
Voting trends: huge enthusiasm among youth and women
According to the Election Commission, long queues are being seen at many polling stations since morning. In particular, the highest turnout was recorded in Dudhnoi of Goalpara district, while the pace of voting was a little slow in Dibrugarh. The international delegation also visited several model polling stations in Assam and appreciated the peaceful and festive atmosphere there. Despite bad weather and rain in many parts, voters are coming out of their homes to participate in this festival of democracy.
Tight security arrangements and wait for May 4
Heavy deployment of security forces has been made to ensure peaceful voting in the state. Till now the voting process is going on smoothly amid the strict instructions of the Election Commission. After the completion of voting on all 126 seats today, the fate of the candidates will be sealed in the EVMs. now everyone’s eyes are on 4 May 2026 But it depends on when the election results will be declared and it will be clear who will rule the throne of Assam for the next 5 years.
