The recent results of Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) recruitment have increased the anxiety among the candidates. The surprising thing is that despite having an army of qualified candidates, the Commission has decided to leave 28 posts vacant. After this decision, question marks have been raised on the transparency of the Commission’s evaluation method and selection process. Competitive students are now raising their voice against this ‘incomplete’ result from social media to streets.
Why were 28 posts left vacant? Commission’s ‘special’ argument
According to the information released by the Commission, suitable candidates meeting the prescribed standards could not be found for these 28 posts. Most of these posts are said to have special qualifications. However, the candidates argue that when thousands of students had appeared in the pre and mains examination, how is it possible that even students who got the minimum qualifying marks for some seats were not found. The students allege that the Commission has deliberately made the evaluation process so complex that it has become difficult to fill the vacancies.
Fingers pointed at the evaluation system: scalping or conspiracy?
The evaluation method of UPPSC has always been a topic of discussion. Many meritorious students who appeared for the RO-ARO exam have claimed that they have been left out of the selection list despite their answers being correct and marks expected to be more than the cut-off. Students say that the ‘secret’ formula that the Commission uses in examining the answer sheets and determining the marks is not transparent. Asking for marks through RTI often results in disappointment, which has further deepened the controversy.
Secretariat service will be affected, workload will increase
These 28 posts of Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer were related to important sections of Uttar Pradesh Secretariat. These posts remaining vacant will have a direct impact on the speed of government work. There is already a shortage of officers in the Secretariat, and now postponing these vacancies for the next recruitment (Backlog) will further increase the work pressure on the existing staff. Experts say that not completing the recruitment process on time and completely also raises questions on the efficiency of the administration.
Angry students and preparation for legal battle
Competitive students are now mobilizing against this decision of the Commission. Students have warned of silent demonstration at Azad Park and Commission gate in Prayagraj. Many student organizations say that they will challenge this matter in the High Court. Their demand is that a ‘waiting list’ should be issued for these 28 posts or those students with less marks who are in the queue should be given a chance.
