News India Live, Digital Desk: To get rid of the crawling traffic and hour-long jams on the roads of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, the district administration and traffic police have implemented a ‘Mega Plan’ from today (April 23, 2026). Strict cordon has been imposed to make the major intersections and busy areas of the city ‘jam free’. The administration has made it clear that now only challan will not suffice; If someone violates traffic rules or does illegal parking, then strict legal action and even an FIR can be registered against him.
Will keep a close eye on these 5 ‘hotspots’
The traffic police has identified the areas of the city where there is maximum traffic jam. From today, additional forces and cranes have been deployed at these places:
Main Road (Albert Ekka Chowk to Sujata Chowk): If the vehicle is parked on the roadside here, immediate towing action will be taken.
Lalpur-Kokar Road: New stoppages have been earmarked for autos and e-rickshaws on this route.
Kachari Chowk and Ratu Road: Here the timing of traffic signals has been changed so that the pressure of vehicles can be reduced.
Bulldozer attack on illegal parking and encroachment
Under this mega plan, not only the vehicles but also the shopkeepers occupying the roads illegally will be punished. The joint team of Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police will remove encroachments from the roadside. Heavy fines will be levied on those setting up shops on footpaths and those parking their vehicles there. The administration aims to double the average speed of vehicles during peak hours (9-11 am and 5-8 pm).
New strict rules for auto and e-rickshaw
Autos and e-rickshaws running haphazardly on the roads of Ranchi are considered to be the biggest cause of jam. Under the new plan:
Autos running without route permit will be confiscated outright.
It will be recommended to cancel the driver’s license if he or she picks up or drops off passengers in the middle of intersections.
‘No Auto Zone’ is being strictly enforced on major routes of the city.
Be prepared for legal action
The Traffic SP has given a clear message that those who repeatedly break the rules will no longer be spared. Every action is being monitored through CCTV cameras installed on the roads. Arrangements for ‘Green Corridor’ are being ensured for ambulance and emergency services. The administration has appealed to the public to use only the designated parking spaces and cooperate with the police so that Ranchi can be made a smart and easily accessible city.
