News India Live, Digital Desk: In today’s time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a part of our lives. Many people use third-party AI bots like ChatGPT on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger for their daily tasks. These bots help us from answering our questions, finding information and creating content. But now Meta (parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram) is going to put a big rein on it.
According to reports, Meta is bringing a new policy, under which many third-party AI chatbots will stop working on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger from January 15, 2026.
Why is this decision being taken?
Meta’s objective behind this big step is to promote its own AI system and keep users’ data safe. Meta has recently launched its own AI assistant ‘Meta AI’, which is quite advanced and is already present in all these apps. The company wants users to use their own official ‘Meta AI’ instead of other AI bots.
Apart from this, there are concerns regarding the privacy and data security of users due to the use of third-party bots. Meta has no control over how these bots are using users’ data. Through the new policy, Meta wants to ensure that users get a safe and reliable experience.
Which AI Bots will be affected by this?
This new policy will affect all those developers and companies who provide their AI chatbot services using Meta’s platforms. However, this rule will primarily apply to AI bots that are designed for direct ‘chatting’ or ‘conversation’, such as bots like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini.
Will AI Bots be stopped completely?
It’s not like that. Meta’s new policy is banning conversational AI. But those AI bots that work for business or automation will continue to run. For example:
- Automated Reply: Bots that automatically answer common questions on a business page will continue to work.
- Notifications and reminders: Bots providing flight information, appointment reminders or delivery updates will not be affected.
- Customer Service: Business bots that provide information about a product or solve simple problems will also continue to work.
Simply put, bots that are just there to provide information or automate a task are here to stay. But bots which carry on long conversations like humans will be banned.
This is a big strategic step by Meta, the aim of which is to further strengthen its hold in the world of AI. Now it remains to be seen how users and developers adopt this change.
